'Electrical Spectacle' Light Show At Franklin Square Begins Nov. 12
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Volunteers are transforming Franklin Square in Philadelphia into a holiday haven for young and old.
"We come out here and we enjoy what we're doing and we hope it brings a lot of smiles to everybody," said Ken from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 98.
Ken is among the volunteers hooking up the electrical connections to power more than 50,000 holiday lights for the big display that opens Nov. 12.
PECO crews in bucket trucks are also trimming the variety of trees with all kinds and sizes of lights.
Amy Needle is president of Historic Philadelphia, which runs the park's programs.
"This is our third year. Franklin Square was able to do this from a grant from the William Penn Foundation, but it's helped having the volunteers to make it possible and they've been here each year," said Needle.
The lights are synchronized for performances to a taped soundtrack of holiday classics by the Philly Pops.
Once it opens, the show will run every half hour from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. nightly through Dec. 31.
