Her Mayoral Bid Fell Short, But Melissa Murray Bailey Says Her Campaign Made A Difference

By Mike DeNardo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Political newcomer Melissa Murray Bailey fell far short in her mayoral bid. But she believes her campaign made a difference.

Murray Bailey said the goals of her first campaign including having children reading on grade level by third grade made an impact.

"We talked about real issues holding the city back. The fact that we're not friendly to business. The fact that our public schools are failing so many of our children," said Murray Bailey.

City GOP chair, state representative John Taylor, admits the party didn't have the resources to overcome a 7-to-1 registration edge for Democrats.

"Right now in Philadelphia Republicans are struggling for money when it comes to citywide races, and she knew that going in. We knew it, she knew it and she did the best she could."
