Police: 4 Officers Injured In After-School Student Brawl

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (CBS/AP) — Authorities say four police officers were injured and five people were arrested after officers tried to break up a brawl involving dozens of students near an eastern Pennsylvania high school.

Police say Allentown officers were responding to reports of a large group of students fighting in the street outside William Allen High School on Thursday afternoon. Approximately 200 youths were gathered near the school.

Police say some of the students turned on officers as they tried to pull fighters apart. As officers were attempting to break up the fight, a female juvenile grabbed an Allentown Police Officer by her hair and pulled her to the ground.

Authorities say as the female was being taken into custody, she punched the officer in the face and the officer went down to the ground where the assault continued.

Officials say three juveniles were arrested on scene yesterday and two more were arrested today. They are charged with aggravated assault, riot, misdemeanor disorderly conduct and other related offenses.

"It's super crazy... at Allentown, it's crazy," says Joseph Adorno, a junior.

Elisha Redondo, a sophomore, adds, "It's really immature, I don't think it's educational to be doing that."

Police say two officers suffered moderate injuries and two others had minor injuries; all four were treated and released from the hospital.

The incident is under investigation. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Allentown Police Department Youth Division at 610-437-7741.
