Region Sees Boom In Halloween Costumes For Pets

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --  It's a growing trend... pet owners dressing up their pets for Halloween.

Business is brisk at "The Pet Snobs Boutique" on 4th near South Street in Society Hill, where you can pick up a Halloween costume for your dog or cat ranging in price from about $5 to $30.

Jaci Kelly is one of the store's co-owners and she says, "since Marvel is so big right now and DC is coming out, we decided to go the nerd route with our costumes and brought in a bunch of comic book heroes.  And then of course Star Wars, cause of the film coming out, but we have been selling a lot of Spider-Man, Captain America... some animal stuff."

The National Retail Federation says about 13% of American adults are planning to put a Halloween costume on their pet this year, spending an estimated $350 million.
Bill Gross of Old City says he will dress his dog Betsy as Betsy Ross.

John McDevitt: "You don't find it too much of a haste?"

Bill Gross: "No, she is excited you can tell.  She's cheering on Halloween."

One survey ranking the top 25 states where pet owners include their pets in Halloween festivities puts New Jersey second... and Pennsylvania third.
