Pair Of Baby Goats Missing From Local Petting Zoo

By Steve Patterson

OLEY TOWNSHIP, Pa., (CBS) -- Two baby goats are reportedly missing from a local zoo.

The goats need special care to survive.

There is a lot of chatter in back of the Oley Turnpike Dairy -- and I mean a lot.

The sweet song of dozens of pygmy goats -- sung for anyone who pays a visit to the petting zoo free of charge.

But caretakers here know two very special voices are missing.

"They were the coolest goats I've ever known, ever," said animal caretaker Julia Stewart.

You are going to hear a lot of strange things in this story, but that statement is not one of them.

Five-month-old baby goats Walter and Blackjack were the stars of the show. Bottle-fed and hand-raised by the caretakers, adored by visitors and children above all others, and loved by the staff like a couple of family dogs. They even have their own pen separated from the rest of the goats at the zoo. Talk about playing favorites.

"They're just, they're different, they're really very close pets to us," said Stewart.

That is why this weekend -- panic. After the caretakers put the little goats to bed around 9 p.m. Sunday, they went missing the next morning. Everyone here believes they were stolen.

"Yes we are working with the police and hoping that they get returned safe," said Stewart.

A lot of the caretakers believe that Walter and Blackjack were just so cute, that the alleged thieves couldn't resist. But the owner believes there's a street value on some of these goats and you could fetch a pretty penny at a farmers' market.

No leads yet, until then more pleading from the humans and singing from the goats.

And until their siblings return, just maybe, they're singing the blues.
