Weather: Sunny And Seasonable Today

By Steve Strouss

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Heavy rain is soaking the Southeast US today. Flood Watches have been posted from Louisiana to Georgia as remnants from hurricane Patricia and a newly developed surface low spin through the Gulf States. Nearly 9" of rain has been measured in New Orleans since Sunday and more showers are expected there later today. Record rainfall was reported across parts of eastern Texas where flash flooding trapped drivers on roadways in and around Houston over the weekend. Corsicana, Texas was one of the hardest hit towns where over 20" of rain fell during the last 48 hours. Baton Rouge, LA set a new daily record with 8.6" of rain and Shreveport, Galveston, Waco and Victoria all recorded record rainfall amounts as well.

Rain from this system will move into the Delaware Valley on Wednesday. Until then we expect quiet conditions with sunshine and seasonable temperatures in the low 60s. Rain has potential to be heavy during the day on Wednesday and both the AM and PM commutes will be impacted. We are forecasting 1-1.5" of rain with the highest amounts likely North and West of Philadelphia. Some streams will rise quickly and poor drainage flooding may occur but flooding on area rivers is not expected. Winds will also be a concern on Wednesday as gusts could exceed 35 mph. In addition, a rumble of thunder cannot be ruled out as the storm pushes through.

Lingering showers are likely Thursday morning and it will remain breezy. Friday and Saturday will be much nicer with sunshine and there is nothing scary about the Halloween forecast as we are predicting dry conditions and temperatures in the upper 50s.
