New Web-Based Company Makes It Easy To Give Stocks As Gifts

By Marcy Norton

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Most of the kids in our lives have more than enough "stuff," so gift giving can be tricky.

Now there's an easy way you can give the gift that really can keep on giving - an investment.

Is holiday shopping creeping up on you, but you don't want to give the young people in your life another video game or a gift card they'll never use?

Former Google executive Peggy Mangot and her partners came up with an easy way to give a gift that gains in value and teaches about saving and investing: stocks.

They started SparkGift, a website where you can give investments in companies like Apple, Tesla and thousands of other companies and funds, for as little as $20 at a time.  And Mangot says it's easy to set up an investment account:

"No forms to fill out, no checks to mail, it all happens online, it all happens on SparkGift.com, and you can get it done in about one to two minutes."

The initial cost is about $3 plus three-percent of your purchase, and the gift receiver pays no fees, not even when they sell.
