What's Cooking on 1060: Philadelphia Cheesesteak Festival
By Hadas Kuznits
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The first ever Philadelphia Cheesesteak Festival is being held Saturday, October 24 in the parking lot of Lincoln Financial Field in South Philadelphia.
It's a question Philadelphians have been asking since the dawn of the cheesesteak...who has the best cheesesteaks in this town?"
Philadelphia Cheesesteak Festival co-founder Kevin Baxter and festival partner Michael Wink say the goal of Saturday's event is to give folks the opportunity to decide for themselves.
"You can go into any bar in Center City Philadelphia and a tourist comes in and says, 'Hey, where should I go and get a cheesteak?' and instantly, there's a fight in the bar," Baxter says.
He says the Cheesesteak Festival a family-friendly event.
"We wanted to incorporate the iconic sandwich," Baxter says, "but we also wanted to do something that was rides, games, entertainment, the whole nine."
There will be an eating competition, music, a zip line, a record breaking 450-foot cheesesteak, and lots and lots of vendors.
"You can come here and you can literally try 59 different cheesesteaks, if you want," Baxter says.
And don't worry about them running out of food; vendors will be able to buy more on site if necessary.
"We have truck companies that can supply," Baxter says. "We have bread companies on board."
