South Jersey Candy Store Filling Holiday Candy Orders From Around The World

By John McDevitt

CLEMENTON, N.J., (CBS) -- With Christmas about two months away, a family-run candy company in South Jersey is busy making candy canes the way they've been doing it for more than 70 years.

The homemade candy canes at Giambri's Quality Sweets in Clementon are sought after from around the world thanks to the Internet.

The holiday favorites start off by combining sugar, water and corn syrup in to a copper kettle.

Its cooked up 332 degrees and poured onto a cooling table. Flavoring and coloring are added and then worked into a dough consistency by way of man power. It's then stretched into nine-inch canes hooked by hand and then put into wrappers.

David Giambri is the fourth generation of Giambri candy makers. He says the are currently nine flavors available.

"Peppermint, wintergreen, anise, molasses, lemon, cherry, spearmint, orange cream and pomegranate," said Giambri.

Giambri's will soon have a tenth choice available. You can vote on what it will be by November 1st. The entrees include strawberries & cream, gingerbread and sea salted caramel.
