Penn Looks For .500 Friday Night Vs. Yale

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The University of Pennsylvania will look to make it two straight wins on Friday night as the Quakers welcome the Yale Bulldogs to Franklin Field in Ivy League action.

Penn improved to 2-3 (1-1 in the Ivy) on Saturday as they hammered Columbia 42-7 up in New York. Of course the Lions are coached by former Penn head man Al Bagnoli, but current Penn head coach Ray Priore says his team didn't get caught up in all the pregame hype surrounding the game.

"I thought the kids did a great job of putting the game in perspective," Priore tells KYW Newsradio. "Playing the game, taking a very business-like approach to it. Prepared well all week long. Very, very focused as we went into the game and executed the plan for four quarters which we have not done in the previous weeks."

This was the second straight game in which Penn hung more than 40 points on the scoreboard (lost to Fordham 48-45 on 10/10). Needless to say, Priore likes what he sees out of his offensive unit.

"I think they're really gelling well," Priore says. "The offensive guys on staff have done a tremendous job implementing the plan and now finding different gems and jewels going through. (Freshman wide receiver) Christian Pearson had a break out game this past weekend. It was great to see."

Pearson caught a game-high 10 passes against Columbia for 126 yards and he caught on one of Alek Torgersen's three touchdown passes. The junior quarterback also threw for 296 yards after missing the Fordham game because of injury.

Yale is 4-1 (1-1 Ivy) and the Bulldogs have shown a real flair for the dramatic in 2015. In three of their four wins they have rallied from 4th quarter deficits.

"Big, physical, mentally tough team," Priore says. "When you come back in three games, being down in the second half, that shows a lot. We know it will be a big game. It was a big game these last handful of years that we've played against them."

Last season these two teams met up in New Haven, Connecticut, Yale winning big, 43-21.

Friday night's game will kickoff at 7:00pm.
