New Shiny Look For Plaques That Adorn The Avenue Of The Arts
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Friends of the Avenue of the Arts and unionized stagehands hit the Walk of Fame today and gave more than a hundred plaques a shiny new look.
Armed with brushes, rags and a variety of cleaning agents, volunteers scrubbed out a years worth of grit and grime that had built up on the bronze plaques bearing the names of Philly's greatest entertainers.
"Some of us are using Brasso but we've discovered, the people on the other side of the street had vinegar, which works really great."
Lucy Clemens is with Friends of the Avenue of the Arts. For Bill Thompson, a unionized stagehand, some of the plaques deserved a more personal touch.
"I was working on Gene Shay earlier and I says 'Yeah, I remember going to the Folk Festival when he first started it years ago.' So I need to make sure he signs a little brighter than the next guy. But you know, we do our best for all the artists."
This Making The Stars Shine event comes just ahead of Mondays induction ceremony for the Avenue's Class of 2015.
