Congressman Brady On Biden Decision: 'It'll Help Hillary; She'll Win The Primary'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A key local Democrat, who calls Joe Biden a close friend, spoke about his reaction to the Vice President's decision not to run for president.

Democratic Congressman Bob Brady of Philadelphia has known the Vice President for years. He says the two talked about what Biden should do when they were together during the Pope's visit, and he says this is the right choice.

"I agree with him he says the time ran out. He went through a mourning period and wasn't really thinking about what his future would be like with his son passing, it was too late for him. It was going to be hard for him to raise the money he would need to be a formidable candidate, the favorite son, Philly's favorite son."

He adds, with Biden out of the running, there's one candidate who will certainly benefit.

He says Hillary Clinton will benefit most from a race without Biden, because if he had entered the race, he would have been the man to beat.

"Ah, it'll help Hillary, absolutely, it'll help Hillary, she'll be successful she'll win the primary."

He's not sure what the future will hold for the Vice President, but guess it might include speaking engagements, stumping for Democratic candidates and perhaps a position in the next White House.
