Local University Provides Low Cost Medical Care To Patients In Need

By Lynne Adkins

CHESTER, PA (CBS) -- A local university nursing school is helping the community stay healthy.

The Widener community nursing clinic provides free or low cost medical care to needy patients in Chester. Director, Ellen Boyda says it's a great opportunity for students at nearby Widener University.

"Absolutely, and especially for those freshman and sophomores who haven't had nursing classes yet or clinical hands on...it just opens their eyes it makes them so excited and validates, for most of them, why they want to be nurses," Boyda said.

She said patients have included homeless members of the community and those who can't afford medical care. The clinic depends on volunteers for all its services.
