5 Reasons The Eagles Roll Vs. Giants

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's good to have hope. It's good to be excited about your home team. It's fair to expect a victory.

But why?

Sometimes, we need to justify our hope, our expectations, and our excitement. So here are five reasons why the Eagles should roll tonight vs. the Giants.

Listen: Andrew Porter on SportsRadio 94WIP

1. Giants injuries

The Giants are all types of banged up, but the two big ones are Odell Beckham Jr. (hamstring) and Prince Amukamara (pectoral). Amukamara, the Giants' No. 1 corner, is OUT.

While the status of the Giants' No. 1 WR and most (only?) dynamic play maker is still up-in-the-air, it seems like it would be smart for the Giants to proceed with caution in Week 6 when dealing with a hamstring injury of a star player.  Beckham has not practiced all week.

2. In the trenches (the Giants cant run the ball)

  • Giants are 26th in NFL with 91.2 rushing yards per game
  • T-30th in NFL averaging 3.6 yards per carry
  • Giants RB Rashad Jennings: 53 carries for 180 yards (3.4 yards per carry)
  • Eagles 10th in NFL allowing 96.6 rushing yards per game, and one of just three teams that has allowed just one rushing TD
  • Giants t-5th worst in NFL with just 7 sacks
  • Eagles are among the best in the NFL with just 7 sacks allowed=
  • Opposing quarterbacks have combined for just an 85.7 QB rating against the Eagles so far this season, which is ninth in the NFL.

3. Giants pass defense with Jayron Hosley starting at CB

  • Giants giving up 304 passing yards per game, dead last in the NFL
  • Now, Jayron Hosley replaces Amukamara
  • Hosley is 25 years old, a 2012 3rd round pick, one career INT in 10 career starts
  • Landon Collins is the Giants' starting rookie safety
  • A lot of inexperience in an already bad secondary

4. Rhythm Offense

I've talked about this before. Chip Kelly has always run, for better or worse, a rhythm offense. The Eagles got rolling last week with 519 total yards of offense and Bradford threw for 333 yards. What better situation to keep rolling than at home, Monday night, full blackout, for the division lead, vs. the NFL's worst pass defense, which is missing its No. 1 corner and possibly its best offensive weapon?

5. It's home vs. the Giants

  • The Eagles are 7-3 in their last 10 games at home
  • They are 3-1 vs Giants under Chip and 7-3 in last their 10 games vs. the Giants
