Philly Man Gets Prison Term For Foiled Methamphetamine Delivery
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — A Philadelphia man who was captured when he tried to make a methamphetamine delivery in northern New Jersey is now headed to prison.
Federal prosecutors say 29-year-old Aaron Vega-Castelo was recently sentenced to nearly 13 years in prison. He also will have to serve five years of supervised release once he's freed.
Vega-Castelo had pleaded guilty to distributing and possessing methamphetamine.
Prosecutors in New Jersey say Vega-Castelo was arrested in December 2013 after a traffic stop on the New Jersey Turnpike in Elizabeth. They say authorities found 1.7 kilograms of methamphetamine in the vehicle and two shoeboxes containing roughly $110,000 in cash.
Vega-Castelo told authorities he was planning to deliver the drugs and cash to people he was meeting in Elizabeth.
