Noel Double-Double Not Enough As Sixers Fall To Nets

NEW YORK (AP) — Brook Lopez scored 24 points and Thaddeus Young finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds Sunday to lead the Brooklyn Nets past the Philadelphia 76ers 92-91.

Nerlens Noel had 15 points and 11 rebounds and Jahlil Okafor finished with 14 points and five rebounds for the 76ers.

76ERS: Robert Covington finished with 11 points and seven rebounds.

NETS: Jarrett Jack finished with 10 points, five assists and three rebounds.

SIDELINED: Joel Embiid, Nik Stauskas, Tony Wroten, Kendall Marshall, Carl Landry, Jerami Grant and Christian Wood all did not dress for Philadelphia. Markel Brown (left oblique strain), Andrea Bargnani (tight left hamstring) and Chris McCullough (right knee rehab) all did not dress for Brooklyn.

WAYNE ELLINGTON A FULL-TIME STARTER? Coach Lionel Hollins started Ellington at shooting guard, suggesting it could be a permanent role going forward.

NIK STAUSKAS CLOSE TO RETURNING: Coach Brett Brown believes his shooting guard will be back before the season starts. "It's a belief that he will come back this week and slowly be brought into practice," Brown said.

76ERS MAY KEEP FOUR POINT GUARDS: With Kendall Marshall and Tony Wroten on the mend from injuries, Philadelphia may keep an extra point guard to back up Isaiah Canaan.

"As it starts getting closer, everybody is starting to do the math and looking at who's out and how long they're out," Brown said. "How do you make it work at the start of a year where you have a decent quantity of games? It's a puzzle for sure."

OKAFOR AND SAMPSON LIMITED: Both were on a 20-minute restriction, Brown said before the game.

UP NEXT: The 76ers play the Celtics in Boston on Friday. The Nets are in Boston on Monday to face the Celtics.
