Visit Bucks County Enjoys Record Breaking Summer

By Jim Melwert

BENSALEM, Pa. (CBS) -- Record breaking numbers were reported at Visit Bucks County's annual luncheon.

After what's described as a record breaking summer, Visit Bucks County Vice President Paul Bencivengo says they're looking forward to 2016, including their new ad campaign.

"Our campaign is "It's That Moment," Bencivengo says. And we talk about these memories and moments that sort of tug at the heart strings. We have advertising that shows families and couples together, and it says 'you're connected,' and it has nothing to do with technology, you know, it's time to get away. It's that moment you can make in Bucks County."

Officials say thanks to great weather this summer, hotel occupancy in August was the highest they've seen, with June and July among the best in the past five years.

"I think we had nine weekends in a row with no rain," says Visit Bucks County President Jerry Lepping. "So some of our attractions like Sesame Place, Washington Crossing Historic Park, they really rely on good weather."

Lepping says the luncheon is also important as they get a chance to show their tourism partners the ad campaigns that aren't seen here, but run in other markets like New York, Washington, D.C., and Western Pennsylvania. Awards were handed out to those partners, including Crossing Vineyards and Winery owned by Tom and Christine Carroll.

"We would not have had the reach that we have as wineries if it had not been for Visit Bucks (County), Chrsitine says. "They've been terrific."
