Report: Embiid's Attitude Among Many Problems With 76ers' Process

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Do you trust the process?

After an article published Friday morning by SI.com detailing the "undermining" of the process, Philadelphia 76ers fans might be second-guessing their answer to that question in regards to Sam Hinkie and their basketball team.

Here are some of the most interesting nuggets from Brian Geltzeiler's blistering story.

  • While Sixers owner Joshua Harris reportedly still believes in Hinkie, others such as head coach Brett Brown and President/CEO Scott O'neil are questioning the GM's process.
  • The decision to trade Michael Carter-Williams was solely a Hinkie decision, and it angered Brown and O'Neil. Brown did not want to take a competitive step backward and O'Neil wanted to market the team after MCW and Nerlens Noel, according to Geltzeiler.
  • Sixers PR man Michael Preston issued a comment on that rumor via the SI.com piece stating, "That unsubstantiated rumor is a gross mischaracterization of the events leading into the Michael Carter-Williams trade. Our organization has been and will continue to be opportunistic when deal of that nature become available."
  • Contrary to original reports, Geltzeiler says Dario Saric does not actually have a buyout after year two in Turkey and Saric's father "doesn't want the Sixers close" to him.
  • Sixers reporter Derek Bodner says Saric does in fact have a buyout after year two.
  • Update: The editor has taken out the Saric-contract part of the story, acknowledging Bodner's point.
  • A league source says Browns' status in Philly may not be as strong as publicly perceived.
  • And the big one---Joel Embiid.
  • According to Geltzeiler, Embiid has issues:
    • He threatened the strength coach
    • He refused to wear his protective boot and his poor rehab approach could have caused his second surgery
    • He went to Vegas against the team's wishes for 10 days to party and dunk
    • He ordered junk food and Shirley Temple's
    • The Sixers were so concerned with his eating habits, they stocked his refrigerator with healthy food
