Women's Wellness Day Event Focuses On Breast Cancer Awareness

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A unique exhibit was held at a women's health fair in the parking lot of the South Philadelphia Target.

The first ever Women's Wellness Day took place at Snyder Plaza. Ellen Lissy Rosenberg, director of civic engagement for The Goldenberg Group says this event was specifically targeted for breast cancer awareness month.

Kuznits: "We're standing in a gigantic breast."

Rosenberg says, "We're standing in two gigantic breasts! This is called 'Ameribreast.' It's an exhibit that travels throughout the country. It's about 15 feet high and 14 feet wide and it allows you, very similar to the heart at the Franklin Institute, to walk through the inside of the breast and to see the anatomy and the physiology."

She adds, "If you look behind you, you'll see the chest wall and then you have what they're calling 'lobules' that go from one end and funnel into the nipple which is where all the milk comes out in your ducts. They show the fat cells that make up the breast tissue itself, and then on the other side here, they're showing some cancer cells and where they can form and how they can effect the anatomy of the breast."

Rosenberg says it's important to know what your body is supposed to look and feel like inside and out.

"So that if something is wrong, you can catch it early enough. And I think this helps to highlight what we're looking at and what we need to be looking for."
