Police: 14-Year-Old Dies After North Philadelphia Shooting

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Police say a 14-year-old boy has died after he was shot in the head Monday night in North Philadelphia.

Philadelphia Police at about 8:40 p.m. Monday, officers responded to a shooting at the 1200 block of N. 10th Street.

Upon arrival, police say the officers observed a 14-year-old male victim on the highway suffering from a gunshot wound to his head.

The boy was taken to the hospital where he was listed in extremely critical condition, according to police.

Police say on Tuesday, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced at 5 p.m.

 

A candlelight vigil was held for the 14-year-old on Tuesday night.

Family members say they will never forget his smile and his spirit.

"He was so talented and gifted, and dancing and music, he was awesome. He loved everybody, you just felt his love. That is why we are marking today as love, that's his new name," said a family member.

Police say at this time the motive is unknown and there have been no arrests.

The investigation is ongoing.
