Game Review: 3 Impressive Eagles' Plays
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- When you win 39-17 there are usually a ton of positive plays to build off of.
That is certainly the case for the Eagles coming off their Week 5 win over the Saints, as they look to earn a share of the NFC East lead with a second straight victory over the Giants on Monday night.
Here are three of the more impressive and crucial Eagles' plays from Sunday's win.
3. Fletcher Cox's sack-fumble
This play was integral for the Eagles and flipped momentum back to their side for the final time. Thanks to two Sam Bradford interceptions in the end zone, the Saints were hanging around. In fact, after a non-pass interference call on Darren Sproles (the one Chip Kelly received an unsportsmanlike penalty for arguing), the Eagles were forced to punt in a 7-7 game with 1:33 remaining in the first half.
On the Saints' second play from scrimmage at their own 31-yard line, Fletcher Cox got the ball back for the Birds after an incredible individual effort. Cox shed a blocker and finished the play, forcing the fumble on Brees, which was recovered by Jordan Hicks. The Eagles tallied a field goal off of the turnover to take a 10-7 lead into halftime and never looked back.
2. E.J. Biggers on Bradin Cooks
Biggers is a guy I've been high all summer long heading into this season and I knew he would make a positive contribution at some point this season.
Saints second-year WR Brandin Cooks---5'10", 190-pounds---can fly. In fact, Cooks runs a 4.33 40-yard dash. Biggers stayed stride-for-stride with the speedy Cooks during a massive 3rd-and-6 play early in the second quarter. Biggers gets his head around and makes a beautiful pass breakup with his left hand.
It was a brilliantly thrown ball by Drew Brees and if not for a perfect defensive play by Biggers, the Saints have the ball in Eagles' territory with a 7-0 lead. Instead, they are forced to punt. That's a game-changing play.
1. Josh Huff's extra effort
First off, we see Sam Bradford on the move, rolling out to the left.
Secondly, Huff runs a precise comeback route, as you can see the separation he gets from the corner. Bradford, moving to the left, delivers a perfectly thrown ball on the money, allowing Huff to get extra yardage after the catch.
And that's exactly what Huff does. Huffs puts his head down and keeps his feet moving. But as you can see, Huff gets some help from Zach Ertz (No. 86). Ertz flies into the screen pushing defenders out of the way for Huff---who is at the NO 7-yard line right now.
But wait, there's more! Here comes another Eagles tight end, No. 87 Brent Celek. Ertz is on the ground at this point, while Celek has come into the picture to shove Saints CB Brandon Browner (No. 39) out of the way.
Huff, Ertz, and Celek push the pile all the way to the NO 2-yard line.
Here, you can see exactly how far Celek and Ertz go to make an extra block for Huff. Celek comes about 15 yards to make the block. Huff's extra-effort keeps everything alive, to even allow for this to happen.
Eagles RB Ryan Mathews scored on a two-yard run on the very next play giving the Eagles a 17-10 lead, a lead they would never relinquish.
