Five Shows To See This October In Philadelphia

By Michael Cerio

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- With all of the fall festivities and shopping for just the right wig to complete your Donald Trump Halloween costume, I'm sure you think there's not enough time to see a show.

You would be wrong.

Pay a friend to rake the leaves, buy your pumpkin pre-carved, and go check out some music this October in Philadelphia.

Friday October 16th – Danzig at Electric Factory

Nothing gets you stoked for Halloween quite like the horror punk sounds of Glenn Danzig and company. The beckoning evil of the former Misfits frontman should be extra enticing this year. The singer has a collection of covers due out next month he's sure to sprinkle in, featuring his take on everyone from Black Sabbath to The Everly Brothers.

Saturday October 17th - Leon Bridges at Union Transfer

Earlier this year we got our first listen of Leon Bridges with his debut Coming Home. The Texas singer channels the ghost of Sam Cooke in a way that's authentically smooth. Now we get to see the time traveling soul crooner in person at Union Transfer.

Friday October 23rd - The Menzingers at Union Transfer

Scranton standouts The Menzingers have been ripping through shows in Philadelphia for years with a blend of thoughtful sincerity and aggression. It's a sing your lungs out, beat your chest, dodge a crowd surfing shoe kind of night with a band that's an adopted Philly favorite. Friday is the first of two nights for The Menzingers at the venue.

Sunday October 25th - Lil Dicky at Underground Arts

David Burd is a writer and comedian from Elkins Park, PA. You know him better though as Lil Dicky. The YouTube viral star took things to another level this year with the release of the album Professional Rapper featuring Snoop Dogg, Fetty Wap, and T-Pain. It's funny, but also an impressive display of skills. Come to laugh and be astonished by his lightning fast delivery and wit.

Thursday October 29th - Big Freedia at The TLA

Are you down with the bounce movement? Queen diva Big Freedia is a party and ready to shake you into Halloween. The New Orleans singer, author, TV star, and bounce movement leader will defy you not to dance. Get ready for an evening of "booty bounce" and "wiggle" that will help justify stealing the kid's peanut butter cups.
