Eagles' Offensive Line Ranked 21st

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The biggest weakness on the underachieving 1-3 Philadelphia Eagles is the offensive line.

The Birds are one of the NFL's worst rushing teams, averaging just 3.1 yards per carry and have been suspect in the passing game allowing seven sacks (five last Sunday vs. the Redskins).

According to Pro Football Focus, the Eagles' 2nd ranked offensive line in 2014 is now ranked 21st through the first four weeks of the 2015 season.  PFF ranks the Eagles 17th against the pass, 25th against the run, and 10th in penalties.

After the controversial release of guards Todd Herremans and Pro Bowler Evan Mathis (due to a contract dispute) this offseason, the Eagles turned to Allen Barbre and Andrew Gardner as replacements. Gardner, unfortunately, suffered a foot injury after three productive games ending his season.

PFF grades Barbre as the "dud" on the Eagles' offensive line, pointing to an abysmal (-10.5) grade.

Left-tackle and seven time Pro Bowler Jason Peters has not performed up to his usual standard, and is now dealing with quad injury. PFF gives Peters, the Eagles' best o-lineman so far, just a (+0.5) grade.

Not only has center Jason Kelce not been his dominant self in the run game, but he has committed multiple bone-head penalties costing the Eagles in key situations.

Third-year guard Lane Johnson has been solid, but is now hindered by an MCL sprain and ankle injury. Furthermore, is Peters is unable to play on Sunday, Johnson could be forced to start at left-tackle vs. the New Orleans Saints.
