Byron Maxwell: 'The Game Is Moving Slow To Drew Brees'

By Ed Benkin

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Eagles and Saints are a tale of two 1-3 teams. One is looking to build momentum, while the other is looking to stop the bleeding.

The Eagles are dealing with a host of injuries as well as execution issues. They limped out of Washington Sunday after a frustrating defeat, and will now face a Saints squad which is coming off it's first victory of the season. Chip Kelly knows his offense has to get back on track, but also understands his defense will face a tough test going against Quarterback Drew Brees.

"He's one of the all-time great quarterbacks to play in this league," said Kelly. "I think he's so in tune to what they're doing and he's so sharp in what they do. You listen to his work ethic and how much he studies and how much he works at the game and it makes it very, very difficult."

Cornerback Byron Maxwell is expected to return from an injury this week. Maxwell will be one of the defensive backs under the gun against Brees on Sunday, but he says he'll be ready to go against one of the best in the business.

"The game is moving slow to Drew Brees," Maxwell said. "Facing him is a challenge, but we're excited for it. We're ready for it."

Brees will once again have plenty of offensive weapons at his disposal. One of the newest members of the Saints is Running Back C.J. Spiller, who is equally effective as a receiver. Spiller caught an 80-yard touchdown pass last week to beat Dallas in overtime, and Kelly knows Spiller is capable of a game-breaking play every time he takes the field.

"Spiller is a very talented player," Kelly said. "Outstanding speed guy and that was evident in overtime. The linebacker for Dallas was matched up on him, and he just ran by him and it was an 80-yard touchdown to end the game. You've got to be conscious of him."

In addition to Maxwell, Offensive Tackle Jason Peters is also planning on returning Sunday after missing last week with an injury. Peters told reporters on Thursday that he will play, and said the Eagles have to dig themselves out of their early-season hole by focusing on Sunday's game.

"We've just got to go out there and get a win one at a time," Peters said. "Take care of the Saints and get everything rolling."
