Dunkin' Donuts Burglar Calls Cops On Himself

JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS) -- Luck was not on the side of a Sparta, New Jersey man who allegedly tried to steal lottery tickets from a Dunkin' Donuts store.

Authorities say 31-year-old Jeffrey Mathesius was arrested for the crime he called to report after he was interviewed by police.

On September 13, Jefferson Township Police say they received a call for a burglary in progress at the Dunkin' Donuts on Route 15 North.

Upon arrival, officers found the front door of the business was smashed and the glass was pried away from the frame of the door. Shattered glass and some blood were found on the floor. Blood was also discovered behind a cash register and near the lottery tickets.

According to investigators, the suspect went across the street to the Quick Chek and entered the bathroom to clean off the blood.

Police say while interviewing Mathesius about what he witnessed they noticed he had cuts on his hands and arms, and was also found to be in possession of a ball peen hammer and a backpack filled with lottery tickets.

Mathesius was arrested and charged with burglary and theft.
