AG Kane Sued By Former Attorney In Her Office

By Tony Romeo

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- Embattled Attorney General Kathleen Kane is now facing a lawsuit filed by a former top lawyer in her office.

Already facing criminal charges related to allegations that she violated grand jury secrecy, now Attorney General Kathleen Kane is facing civil litigation from the former head of the criminal appeals section of her office.

In a complaint filed in federal court in Harrisburg, attorneys for James Barker say he testified truthfully before a grand jury investigating allegations against Kane.

The complaint says Barker's testimony contradicted Kane's defense, and that within days of news reports that revealed his testimony, Kane retaliated by terminating Barker, offering "false explanations" for his firing that "call into question his good name."

The attorney general's spokesman says the office will review the lawsuit and respond accordingly… and that Kane will "defend herself vigorously.">
