Swarthmore Student Dies In Fall In Wooded Section Of Campus

SWARTHMORE, Pa. (AP) — A Swarthmore College student has died after accidentally falling off a cliff in a wooded section at the back of the school's suburban Philadelphia campus.

School officials identified the student as sophomore Anthony Chiarenza of Bayside, New York. Police say he was alone when he fell about 40 to 50 feet in Crum Woods on Saturday afternoon and was later found by residents.

School president Valerie Smith asked students, faculty and staff to keep Chiarenza's family and friends in their thoughts and prayers. She urged students to look out for one another.

The fall occurred the same day Smith was being officially installed as president. Officials say one-on-one counseling will be provided by the college.
