After Fallout From Previous Storms, Homeowners Getting Jump Start On Tree Trimming

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. (CBS) -- With Hurricane Joaquin heading our way, tree trimming companies are getting very busy.

Homeowners are looking at the forecast and remembering the fallout after Hurricane Sandy and the February 2014 ice storm, and that's creating a lot of business for tree trimmers.

Chris Miller, District Manager with Davey Tree Expert Company in King of Prussia, says, "The common psyche of most home owners is to wait until the very last minute to do anything. That is where they're up against a pretty large challenge because right now you have a lot of tree care professionals who are getting themselves organized to respond to the storm that's coming up."

He says phones started ringing as soon as Joaquin was officially declared a hurricane.

"When it was officially categorized as a hurricane, and then when it was upgraded. It definitely gets the phone going, and it gets people concerned and it really raises the alarm."

He says after the storm, the situation could get even dicier.

"The bigger problem is when you have trees that come down across power lines, now we've created a very, very, serious, dangerous situation."

Miller expects his crews to be busy for weeks after this system moves through the region.
