Man Critical After West Oak Lane Stabbing

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A man is in critical condition after being stabbed in the West Oak Lane section of the city.

It happened shortly after 1 a.m. at the 5700 block Ogontz Avenue.

Authorities say they a 49 year-old man stumbled into an open market at the intersection 68th street and Ogontz Avenue, where he was found with multiple stab wounds to the chest and abdomen.

Police took the man to Einstein Hospital where he is in extremely critical condition.

At the hospital, a 56 year-old man was being treated for a head injury. A witness identified the man with the head injury as the one responsible for the stabbing.

According to the witness, the two men were in a physical altercation. The 49 year-old man hit the 56 year-old man with a large two-by-four, and then the 56 year-old man stabbed the victim 4 times.

The suspect is in stable condition at Einstein Hospital. Police say he drove himself to the hospital and the knife was found in his car.

Police say the suspect is cooperating. No charges have been filed at this time.
