University Of Delaware 2nd Amendment Group addresses Noose/Jack-O-Lantern Incident

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Paper lanterns hanging from trees at the University of Delaware were mistaken for nooses following a gun rights rally held on campus that featured an address from political pundit and gun rights advocate Katie Pavlich.

Tyler Yzaquirre, President of group Students for the Second Amendment, which sponsored Pavlich's appearance, told Dom Giordano on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT that the event was confronted by a number of student protesters.

"We brought Katie in and contracted her to speak about the Second Amendment. There was about 80 Black Lives Matter protesters outside that was organized by the students. She did her spiel. All she talked about was the history and context of the Second Amendment, not even addressing the Black Lives Matter movement. Then afterwards they decided to go off on a tangent, saying that she's a racist and commenting on how white she is, and her white privilege."

If was feared initially that the lanterns were nooses hung in response to the protesters, prompting Yzaquirre's organization to address matter.

"Katie texted me, saying that 'nooses' have been found. I issued a statement immediately to the Union Review, which is the school newspaper saying that we should find the people who did this, it's an awful thing, and we should bring them to justice. That was my initial reaction"

Only later on was he informed they were not nooses.

"They're leftover jack-o-lantern, paper lantern holders up in the trees from an event on September 16th."

Acting University President Nancy Targett is still planning to address students on the incident, an act that Yzaquirre thinks is inappropriate.

"She emailed the students today saying please join me on the green at 4:30, which indicates that she's leading this rally for the Black Lives Matter movement, which I think is totally unprofessional of a President of a university of this size."
