Report: More Deaths Caused By Selfies Than Sharks In 2015

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- If someone asked you to write a list of things more dangerous than a shark, it would probably be a pretty short list. One thing that more than likely wouldn't crack the list would be a selfie.

We all (whether we like to admit it or not) take selfies from time to time, but a new report says we might need to take the process a little more seriously, at least compared to shark attacks.

According to Mashable, more deaths have occurred as a result of taking a selfie than from being attacked by a shark this year.

The most recent selfie-related death was a tourist who was visiting the Taj Mahal and fell down stairs while taking the picture.

The report states that 12 people have died in 2015 while taking a selfie, while only 8 have died from shark attacks.

Four of the selfie deaths were a result of falling. Others who died while snapping pictures were hit or injured by trains, or hurt while trying to take a picture on dangerous equipment.
