Pope Francis was greeted by a cheering crowd, chanting "Ho ho! Hey hey! Welcome to the USA."

This is the first time in his life Pope Francis has set foot in the United States. And when he did, he was greeted by President Barack Obama and the first family, as well as Vice President Joe Biden, his wife, and two granddaughters.

During the Pope's three city tour in the U.S., culminating with his trip in Philadelphia, Pope Francis is expected to continue what's being called his revolution of normalcy, while stressing the future of humanity passes through the family.

The Pope was also greeted by Cardinal Donald Wuerl of the Washington Archdiocese.

CBS 3 Eyewitness News recently has the chance to talk to the Cardinal Wuerl to get a better sense of what we will hear from the Pope over the next six days.

"I think it's going to be an extremely exciting time and very positive. I suspect that his message, especially when he's speaking to Congress, is going to be a call for all of us to be able to recognize that good things can be accomplished," said Cardinal Wuerl.

After a brief private meeting with the President and the first family, Pope Francis got into an Italian Fiat and as an enduring crowd cheered him along the way.
