Post Snap With Malcolm Jenkins: 'There Is Too Much Talent On This Team To Be 0-2'

By Joseph Santoliquito

Malcolm Jenkins is a Super Bowl champion and veteran NFL safety. He sits down with CBS Philly's Joe Santoliquito every week.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — If there was one shining light in the Eagles' 20-10 disaster against Dallas on Sunday, it was the play of Malcolm Jenkins. The veteran safety's fumble recovery and 34-yard return gave the Eagles a glimmer of hope in the fourth quarter. Then the Eagles proceeded to give the ball right back on the ensuing play when Sam Bradford was unaware of the snap and it bounced off his chest, fumbling the ball back to the Cowboys.

That summed up the Eagles' day.

But it didn't sum up the Eagles.

Jenkins feels, as most players in that locker room do, that the Eagles' 0-2 start can be turned around. It's going to have to happen now—starting Sunday at MetLife Stadium against the Jets.

"We were never out of the Dallas game, and we always had a feeling that we were in it, and defensively we played well, but their defense out played us," Jenkins said. "Chip (Kelly) was the same that I've known over the last two years. He wasn't angry or yelling. His message to us is that it's time to get some things fixed, and it started with himself. He said it started with the coaching, and it gets down to the players, on offense, defense and special teams. Everyone needs to sit down and evaluate the last two weeks critically and see where we can improve individually.

"There is too much talent on this team to be sitting here at 0-2. But we have to take a hard look at how we're doing things from a player's standpoint, a coach's standpoint and see how we can put it all together. Talent only wins on paper, if you're not putting it out there on the field, it means nothing. We still have a lot of hope left. This is a big week for us. That starts with evaluating the film and how we practice. We have to amp some things up. It's a big week. We have a lot of adversity going on right now, and rightfully so, because we put ourselves in this position.

"We are a team still fighting for an identity. At the end of the year, it's all about what you out into Sundays. We had an idea of what we wanted to be. In all actuality, your identity gets formed in how you play games. Right now, people don't necessarily know who we are. We have to start to build and find what the balance and formula in what's successful for us. We might wind up being a defensive team, or a run-first team, whatever it is, we have to find that formula and stick with it."
