Police In NJ Investigate Reported Attempted Child Abduction

BRICK, NJ (CBS) – Police are investigating a reported attempted child abduction in Brick, New Jersey.

Police say around 9 p.m. Saturday, they received a call to respond to the Waterside Gardens Apartment Complex.

Upon arrival, authorities say a 10-year-old girl said she was playing hide and seek with friends when two men called her over. Police say when the girl refused, she reported one of the men got close to her and told her if she didn't go with them, he would force her.

The 10-year-old told police the man then grabbed her arm, but she was able to pull away.

She told officers the two men ran in the opposite direction, got into a minivan and drove away.

Police say the girl described the first suspect as a white male, wearing a NY Yankees baseball hat, a blue tank top and blue jeans. He had tattoos covering his arms to his wrists and she told police he smelled of alcohol and body odor.

The second suspect is described as a white male, wearing cargo shorts, a tan shirt and glasses. The girl told police he was wearing a baseball hat and may have had a tattoo on his right bicep.

The girl told police the men drove off in a vehicle described as a dirty, blue-colored minivan with silver rims.

Detective Bob Shepherd is investigating the incident.
