Terrell Owens And Brian Westbrook Among Hall Of Fame Nominees

By Ray Boyd

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Two members of the Eagles 2004 NFC Championship Team are among the list of names that could be the next group heading to Canton.

Terrell Owens and Brian Westbrook were two potent weapons on that team and now they appear on the list of nominees for the 2016 Pro Football Hall of Fame induction class.

Both players were eligible for nomination for the first time and it was announced on Wednesday that their names would be included on the list of 108 modern era nominees hoping to reach football immortality.

Both players are far from a shoe in to make it in 2016. Westbrook merely because of overall production, and Owens for all the non-football issues that his teams were forced to deal with.

The numbers support Owens possibly going in on the first ballot and he will certainly make it to Canton eventually. The thing is, very few players, even great players make it on the first ballot and voters tend to take their opportunities to send a message by making a player wait.

The Owens that was a locker room distraction may very well wind up making the ultra-talented side of Owens wait to hear his name called. Whenever he does get in, people better get their popcorn ready. That will be a speech to remember.

As for Westbrook, this nomination is something that is special for a player that was the ultimate offensive weapon for the Eagles for nearly a decade.

His contribution to the team was not lost on former teammate, and SportsRadio 94 WIP host Ike Reese, who congratulate Westbrook.

The meaning of it all is something Westbrook is very aware of as well.

Westbrook finished his career with 6,335 rushing yards, 3,940 receiving yards and a combined 71 touchdowns between rushing and receiving.

Whether or not the Pro Football Hall of Fame is on the horizon for Westbrook, he will be entering the team's Hall of Fame this year.
