New Promotion Encourages Visitors To Philly To Snap And Share Their Photos

By Melony Roy

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The folks at Visit Philly have partnered with the Philadelphia Zoo to encourage people to snap and share pictures using the hashtag #VisitPhilly.

The #VisitPhilly photo spots promotion began in June to connect with locals and the millions of visitors traveling to Philadelphia. On Wednesday, they added some special guests at the Porch at 30th street station: Dewey the owl, Shenandoah the hawk, Rojo the boa constrictor, and Buku the lizard.

"We've partnered with the zoo because every animal is cute, people like taking pictures with them, and it was just another way to extend the promotion that we have with the #visitphilly photo spots and keep the promotion going throughout the fall," says Caroline Bean, director of social media for Visit Philadelphia.

"We just wanted to give our visitors something fun to do but it also helps us make the visitors become brand advocates for Philadelphia so they can share their photos and get friends and family excited about visiting."

Running through September 30th, the large bright red "xoxo" structures are featured at spots throughout the city.

People are encouraged to take photos, tag them with #visitphilly and post them to social media.
