Car Sharing Service Zipcar Adding One Way Option In Philadelphia

By Marcy Norton

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Car-sharing service Zipcar is rolling out one way service in three of its markets nationwide, and Philadelphia is one of them.

After a successful test of one way service in Boston, Zipcar spokesperson Lindsay Wester says the company chose Los Angeles, Denver and Philadelphia as the first cities where it plans to offer the option to members.

"When you reserve a car, you select the drop off location closest to your destination, and a spot is actually reserved for your car. You just get in the car, and go and leave it when you're done. It's really, really simple."

Zipcar is adding Honda fit models to its inventory for one-day use, and the price will be $6 per half hour, compared to $8 an hour for round use.

Wester says one way service will start here this fall, likely in the next couple of weeks, though there's no specific date yet.
