Simon Gagne Announces Retirement From The NHL
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Former Flyer Simon Gagne announced his retirement from the NHL on Tuesday. Gagne played 14 years in the league.
11 of his 14 seasons were spent with the Flyers. Gagne recorded 601 points in 882 NHL games.
"Today, I want to thank my trainers and teammates," the former left winger said in statement. "You inspired me to surpass myself. You made me understand that you need more than talent; it takes sacrifice and discipline and you need to work harder than your rivals. I also wish to thank my fans. Every evening, you energized me and inspired me to perform."
Gagne scored 264 goals and tallied 271 assists while wearing the orange and black. He is 9th on the Flyers' all-time list for goals and 10th in both points and games.
Gagne, 35, was named Flyers team MVP in 2005-06 and again in 2006-07. He was also a 2-time All-Star.
