Man Shot Dead In South Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police are investigating a deadly shooting in South Philadelphia.

It happened around 10:30 p.m. Monday at 24th and Montrose Streets.

Police say officers responded to a report of shooting and found a 21-year-old man lying unconscious in the street with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and torso.

He was rushed to Presbyterian Hospital where he was pronounced dead a couple hours later.

Police are searching for the gunman and are questioning witnesses to the shooting.

"Witnesses describe the shooter as a male, possibly wearing camouflage pants or dark clothing," said Chief Inspector Scott Small. "(He) was last seen on a bicycle traveling west on Montrose from 24th Street."

Authorities say at least ten shots were fired. Several parked vehicles were also struck by the gunfire.

Police say the victim lived around the corner from where he was shot.

Investigators did not find any cameras in the immediate area and say they have no initial motive for the shooting.
