Police: Arrest Made In Connection With Sexual Assault In Germantown

By Rahel Solomon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police have arrested a 15-year-old for an alleged Germantown sexual assault that occurred September 8th.

The sexual assault was reported on the 5400 block of Wakefield. Friday evening the victim, while driving with her family, spotted her alleged attacker on Church Lane and Baynton Street - less than a block away from the incident.

"A very bold individual to one commit a crime like that, I mean there's obviously something wrong to commit a crime like that and then be out and about in a comfortable manner possibly even looking for another victim," said Lt. John Stanford of the Philadelphia Police Department of the arrest.

Police say the suspect pulled the victim into an alleyway before committing the crimes.

The suspect is being held on charges including rape and robbery. Police say it's unclear if he will be tried as a juvenile or adult.

Neighbors state they're relieved an arrest has been made.

"I was shaken," said neighbor Kathy Wright, "I'm very thankful."

Philadelphia police say they are in the process of testing the suspect's DNA to see if there are connections to other cases including one also reported September 8th on 400 E. Locust Avenue.

Wright added, "I understand he's 15-years-old but I just thank God that he is off the street and he won't have a chance to hurt anybody else."
