Police Announce Arrest In Connection With Shooting Death Of Pregnant Woman In Phila.

By Dan Wing

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police have charged a suspect connected to the shooting death of a pregnant woman last year.

Authorities say 25-year-old Jasmine Williams was eight-months pregnant when she was shot in the head, arms and legs on West Nedro Street in late September of 2014. She was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center where she died a short time later.

Doctors were able to deliver her baby, but the child died an hour later. After almost a year-long investigation, authorities issued an arrest warrant for 26-year-old Markese Martin on September 4th. Martin was already serving a jail sentence at Curran Fromhold Correctional Facility.

A 25-year-old man was also shot in the thigh during the incident. He survived his injury.

Martin will now be charged with two counts of murder, and attempted murder.
