Police Investigate Reported Sexual Assaults In Germantown

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police are investigating a series of reported sexual assaults in the city's Germantown neighborhood.

Investigators say two reported attacks happened Tuesday, one at 3:45 p.m. at the 5400 block of Wakefield Street, the second at 8:20 p.m. on the 400 block of E. Locust Avenue.

"Appears to be approaching these females from behind grabbing them and pulling them into an alleyway in one incident in the other pulled a young lady into a driveway and then committed the sexual assault," said Philadelphia Police Lt. John Stanford.

A source tells CBS 3 a third attack was reported before Tuesday.

"I'm about three blocks away from that. I have kids and everything, that isn't safe at all. And school just started up," said a resident.

"You never know who's going to do what. It's very scary," said another resident.

"Try not to walk and text and not pay attention to what's going on. If you have headphones or earbuds or anything like that just try to be aware of your surroundings," said Lt. Stanford.

Police say the suspect is described as a black male in his 20's around 5'5" to 5'6", thin build and wearing dark colored jeans and a white t-shirt at the time.

Meantime, people who live and work in Germantown say they'll be on alert.

"We have to look out for each other. We really do," said a resident.

CBS 3 Eyewitness News is told more officers have been moved to the area and have increased patrols until a suspect is in custody.

Police ask residents who see anything out of the ordinary or have information to contact them.
