Weather: Summer Temperatures Hanging On

By Geoff Bansen

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It is the day after Labor Day, the unofficial end of summer; but you wouldn't know it from the weather!

Summer continues to hang on in full force. Hot and humid weather is making it feel more like early July than early September. Philadelphia will reach the low 90s on Tuesday, making it the second day of a potential 6th heat wave!

You can expect lots of sunshine as well, making it a great beach or pool day for those who haven't had to return to work or school just yet! Wednesday will follow suit, with the added threat for a pop up thunderstorm late in the day, especially to the north and west of Philadelphia.

More significant changes will come into the picture on Thursday, as a cold front approaches the Delaware valley. Not only will showers and thunderstorms put a damper on much of the day, but the heat and humidity will begin to drop as a result. Once the front passes late Thursday into early Friday, highs will return to much more average numbers. Looking ahead, that trend continues even more by late in the weekend.
