Police say the pedestrians were hit around 4:30 in the morning while crossing Broad Street at Arch Street. The cab was heading north when the two were struck.

The two pedestrians, identified by police as 25-year-old Amanda Digirolomo, of Phoenixville and 25-year-old Bryan Botti, of Baltimore, Maryland, were pronounced dead. Police say the woman died on the scene and the man passed away at the hospital.

"Amanda was a smart, outgoing and hardworking young woman. She had a bright future. Her thoughtfulness, caring smile and positive personality will be terribly missed. The loss of such a promising young adult brings great sadness to our Y family," Former YMCA boss Dierdre Wood told Eyewitness News.

Witnesses say both victims were tossed in the air on impact. Officials say they were found about 100 feet away from where the cab struck them.

Witnesses say the cab was traveling at about 50 miles per hour, but police are still investigating.

According to police, the driver of the cab, a Rosemont Taxicab Company car, stayed on scene before going to the hospital with chest pains.

Broad Street was shut down between Cherry and Arch Streets during the accident investigation. The street was reopened a few hours later.
