Dozens Of Boys Get Free Hair Cuts At West Philly YMCA

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Dozens of boys waited in line Sunday for free hair cuts that came courtesy of a group called of barbers who care. "Barbers that Care" is known throughout the city for snipping and cutting the crowns of celebrities, but on Sunday, the group was making boys look like celebrities for the first day of school.
"It just felt soft," said one boy, "better than my other barber. I'm going to start going to them now."
Members of the group donated their time to give confidence to kids and savings for parents.
It's a lot of help and support for my family," said one mother of three, "and we really appreciate it."
"That 10 to 15 dollars that it costs for a haircut, I can use it to get him something else for school," said Clinton Mills, a father from West Philadelphia.
For the barbers, it's a warm and fuzzy feeling.
"It makes me feel amazing inside," said Shawn Davis, a volunteer barber, "because these are the young people who look up to us as barber."
Roughly 200 boys were expected to attend the event, but they got more than a free trim; each boy or girl also received a free book...and more.
"They'll get free book bags," said Kenny Duncan, the event's organizer.
So they'll not only read more, but look good doing so. It's a great way to start the school year.
