Local Marine Speaks Out After Ronda Rousey Accepts Invite To Marine Corps Ball

By Alexandria Hoff

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A Camden County man serving our country gets a very special date to the Marine Corps ball.

Ronda Rousey, the undefeated UFC bantamweight champion will be his date.

She accepted his invitation made over social media.

There are some guys who find strong women intimidating.

U.S. Marine Jarrod Haschert isn't one of them.

The 22-year-old proved just that. Last month when he took to Facebook with a bold request for UFC champion MMA fighter Ronda Rousey.

"You are my celebrity crush. I love everything you do and I think you are a phenomenal person which is why it would be my honor to take you to the Marine Corps ball on December 11," said Haschert.

Haschert's proposition achieved viral status before making it to Rousey herself.

While out in Los Angeles with friends this week, Rousey answered the big question.

"You're 100 percent sure you'll totally go with the guy?"

"Yeah. I'll totally go," she said.

CBS 3 Eyewitness News caught up with Haschert  via Skype from where he's stationed in North Carolina.

(Hoff:) "What did you think when you saw her reaction?"

"I turned on some happy music, that Pharrell song I'm so happy and I was dancing around my room I couldn't contain myself," he said.

"I've been in contact with one of her people and hopefully I'll be able to get to talk to her soon," said Haschert.

So what is it about Ronda Rousey?

"She's an American champion and I wanted to celebrate with her the Marine Corps ball and show her what American warriors are like," he said.

There is one condition.

(Hoff:) "Now she's saying she'll go but she needs dates for her girls. Is that going to be an issue?"

"I've already gotten phone calls from a bunch of the guys so I don't think that will be a problem," said Jarrod.
