'Angel' Gets A Second Chance After Being Tossed From Moving Car
By Syma Chowdhry
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Angel is hoping for a miracle.
She is trying to get back on her feet after being thrown from a moving car in Philadelphia.
Ann-Marie Petitto-Thomas is a volunteer with an animal rescue group called the Last Chance Ranch.
"A passerby saw it and went and got her before she rolled into any kind of traffic or anything, because she was just laying there," she said. "And he ran her over to Animal Care and Control in Philly."
It quickly became obvious the Maltese cannot walk.
"We don't think from being tossed out of the car. I think it might have been the situation that she was like this and they just didn't want to deal with it anymore."
Animal Care and Control quickly alerted other animal rescue groups about her condition.
"Probably heading for euthanization because nobody was going to take this dog."
But - Angel is getting a second chance at the Last Chance Ranch in Quakertown.
It is a place where different kinds of animals are rescued.
This farm has become Angel's heaven.
"It's almost like she knows she is okay now."
Volunteers says the dog's hind legs aren't working, but she may not be completely paralyzed.
"Her tail wags, like her tail moves."
Angel can stand on her hind legs for only a few seconds. She uses her front legs to get around.
"She scoots like a little ... A little goose."
The organization plans to raise thousands of dollars to pay for vet bills to improve her quality of life.
"Angel is not going anywhere! This dog is going to be around for quite sometime."
