Weekend Box Office Report: 'Straight Outta Compton' Streak
By Bill Wine
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- That's three straight for Straight Outta Compton.
The gangsta rap drama earned an estimated $13-million for its third consecutive first-place finish on a slow-slower-slowest August box-office weekend at multiplexes.
The runner-up was the debuting faith-based drama, War Room, which totaled $11-million.
Third place went to the smash thriller sequel, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, which took in just over $8-million.
Rounding out the top five were the debuting suspense thriller, No Escape, with Owen Wilson and Lake Bell, fourth with $8-million, and the holdover horror-thriller sequel, Sinister 2, fifth with $4-million.
Overall, industry-wide totals were dismal, not unusual for the last weekend in August.
