Police Close In On Hit-And-Run Suspect That Killed Two Year Old Boy

By Pat Loeb

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's been more than four months since a driver struck and killed a two-year-old in Kensington, and critically injured his mother, but police say they are finally closing in on the suspect.

Police had the car they believe struck the mother and son at Mascher and Lehigh Streets, within days of the April 13th accident, and a pretty good idea of who was driving.

A Lycoming County man turned the car in, saying he'd loaned it to 22-year-old Miquel Colon, who returned it with damage matching debris left at the scene.

But it wasn't until this week that police issued an arrest warrant, a long-awaited relief for the victims' relatives, such as Daisy Sanchez.

"You can run, but you can't hide."

Sanchez says that her cousin, 19-year-old Josephine Rivera-- though critically injured herself-- stayed by her son David's hospital bed for three days following the crash, until the toddler succumbed to his injuries.

"We can never get him back, but justice, justice will be served" says Sanchez.

There's a 20-thousand dollar reward for help with Colon's capture and conviction.
