Jay Lloyd's Getaway: Countryside Meets Industry In Chester County

By Jay Lloyd

COATSVILLE, Pa. (CBS) - Pristine countryside and America's industrial heritage sit side by side in Chester County at a fascinating museum and rural ramble.

American steel production is still alive in nearby Coatesville.

"We have now 205 years of continuous steelmaking here," says Jim Ziegler, who oversees the National Iron and Steel Heritage Museum at the historic Lukens plant that produced everything from locomotives to submarines.

The centerpiece is a trident made from Lukens steel salvaged from the ill-fated World Trade Center.

The list of American icons, traced by museum exhibits, seems endless.

"Bridges, oil rigs, nuclear plants," says Ziegler.

And after a tour of the Lukens family homes and landscaped grounds, ramble south along the back roads and the storied Chester County Hunt country.

You'll find a leisurely British lunch at the hunt sets popular watering hole, the Whip Tavern.
